The direction Nasicus questioned, seemed to be in a chemical biological way. I am not concerned with that, but more in a behavioral way.
More importantly then their chemical makeup or what they are used for. Attract, repell, intice, etc. What good are pheromones to a solitary snake?
If this is the direction Nasicus was going, then please include it in his thread.
