i personally used a 1 - 7,000g digital scale. it comes with a nice plastic bowl that most smaller reptiles fit in, and only cost about $30 shipped. i'm on my second one in about 6 yrs. i have used it for everything from nephrurus geckos, to hognose, to old world rat snakes, to bp's. i also have reef tanks and it has helped me in weighing out additives. i would rather pay a couple more bucks and have one for multiple uses instead of limiting myself to things under 2k grams. to each their own....
