Maybe I can talk you into driving another 300 miles to Alpine, Texas. It's a beautiful little town in the middle of alterna phase Gray-Band territory. I picked one off a small road cut just West of town along the main highway and then a year later collected one off of Big Hill just South of town. You can drive South to Study Butte and spend an entire night walking the cuts in between or head South from SB to Lajitas and River Road. I haven't been back since 1999 but I can advise you to not hunt near the border alone and I would avoid River Road if you are squeamish about the drug-runners. I did almost all of my hunting alone and made just one all night trip on RR and had a hard time enjoying it due to the stories I heard. I also drove Black Gap a bunch of times until I was arrested there for taking a snake off the road in about '98. PM me if you want to hear more of my adventures in West Texas and again, don't bother going there before May and June would be better.
