Sandiegobrb, did he come to you this way? In other words, did the vendor/breeder sell you a snippety animal, or did he get get this way after reaching you?

As you indicated, rainbows are nippy little things as babies. However, they almost always tame down rapidly with regular, gentle handling. If they don't, it is usually because of either an environmental or personal issue. For example, if the house has a pet that makes a snake nervous, they may not like being out while that animal is present. Or, another handler may have a scent or movement type the snakes does not like (such as sudden, jerky movements).

A few tips:

Keep all movements slow and deliberate.

Do not back off if he bites, as that teaches them you can be driven off.

Keep sessions short and easy, just two to three minutes, with a loose hold so he does not feel restricted.

If he starts to get calmer, slowly increase session length over time.
