I came across this lizard they had simply listed as 'Ameiva Lizard'. After going home and looking into the care and housing requirement, i set-up the terrarium within a 40 gallon breeder and purchased her. Curious about the exact species of Ameiva, as i know they are a cousin of the Tegu, i turned towards google and found it to be the species called a Saint Croix ground lizard, or scientifically Ameiva polops. This species is currently listed as critically endangerd and it shocked me that Petco was even able to come into possession of the species. My question though is, should i report Petco for dealing with a critically endangered species? Honestly, i don't think i should even be owning now...
