The parvo/distemper combo, if given after 12 weeks of age, is good for life. The risk is of exposure before the shot. If the dog has not had a vaccination, and you plan on giving the DHLPP at 12 weeks, keep the puppy at home and away from contact with animals outside your household. In other words, don't take it visiting, keep it in a fenced area away from other dogs, and don't let people with sick dogs near the puppy. Two weeks after the vaccine he should be sufficiently protected. Then he will need no other shots other than rabies for the rest of his life.
