Puppies are hard! It's been a LONG time since we have had a puppy in the house. Don't get me wrong, Katsu is actually a very good puppy. I am just not very good with puppy brains. I am more used to mature adult brains so I expect too much at times and that does not work with Katsu's personality. Thankfully, I am adaptable.
I have never taken a puppy through foundation agility before. So, some of what I am dealing with is very new to me. Also, I will admit that my tolerance for JQP in classes is wearing thin. I know that makes me seem like a snob. It's not really the reason it is a problem for me. It's mostly that my puppy gets bored easily and we already have many of the skills taught in beginner classes. So, to keep her engaged and happy, we end up skipping class and go to a pet store and work there instead on our own for about 15 minutes and then just play together. She's not a serious dog like my others have been, so play is very important for her. Playing games with me in strange places has been a focus of ours instead of other more formal skills. We are building our relationship first. The rest will come later. Not sure what form that will be. Many have tried to convince me to lure course with her. She would love it, but it's not really the team sport I am used to.
So, we are at the start of a journey once again. What I thought I knew, I find out I never really knew, it just worked for a different dog. Katsu's path will be what she needs it to be. There is a national agility event in my area next year that many are trying to get ready for. She will not be participating.
