Those decisions are always hard to make though we know they are the correct decisions. You mentioned the dog photo at the top of the forum... they are my first two Shiba Inu's. The one on the left is Keiko and I adopted him in 2002. Sadly he passed away in September 2010. The other on the left is Toshi and she is still with me.
