Hi I am new to the site and just saw your ? I have 2 res for about 7 yrs,, they will eat anything that can't get away from them, matter of fact about once a mth I feed them live fish (kinda gross)but they need that in their diet, I'm guessing you must live someplace warm, because they are usually kept inside, mine are in a tank with a heater set at 78,if it gets to cold they will get respitory infections,( not fun and expensive). So my answer would be no, But good luck with your pond, I have one of those, but just for frogs.
