I have an old 7 ft x 7 ft fiberglass spa shell that I am thinking about turning into a Koi pond. Is this doable or would I be
better off starting a pond from scratch. 3 sides have built in bench seating and one corner has steps all of which could serve as support for potted water plants. The 4th side was a curved lounge that I thought a few well placed rocks could form a hideout for the fish. There are 4 plumbed jets and a drain / return close to the bottom. I would NOT use the old spa equipment but would plumb a bio filter and pond pump to circulate the water.

I'm not sure of the number of gallons. If not large enough for an average Koi pond I thought I could just build up another level from the spa lip. That leads us back to the original question if it would just be better to start from scratch.

Thanks,
Jim (1 Florida Native)
