My filter pads in my Hozelock bioforce 2000uvc (new model) have been in use for about 12 months and are starting to become increasingly impossible to clean completely with the water pressure i have available to me. I'm not too keen on replacing them with 40 dollar pad replacements every year on top of the high cost of the uvc bulb. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience replacing the pads function with something else that is more durable and performs equally or better than the pads for removing debris. I know some filters use combs of some sort, and other use beads (but those require backflushing)...

The bioforce 2000uvc uses a set of 3 thick foam pads starting from course to fine, though the course filter pad will become caked with debris and start to lose it's pourous properties ...leaving the other two pads to do nearly no extra filtering as the top pad compresses and shrinks inward from the pressure and water bypasses the pads via the edges.

Perhaps moving to an even more course pad on top, the stock course in center and a slightly less course bottom will result in overall better filtration?
