Not sure if it is required in all states but if your ferret is vaccinated and bites someone, he can be quarantined and observed rather than euthanized. You also need to have your ferret vaccinated against canine distemper, with the FERRET version, not the regular old dog vaccine--your vet should be able to provide this.
