To be on the safe side I recommend contacting your bylaw office or city hall to double check. Genets are not related to cats at all, or at least not part of the same family even if they share similar characteristics. They look more weasel like than cat like to me and don't seem to get very big.



As I expect buying one of these isn't cheap, checking with state and county laws regarding exotics would be a good idea. It also wouldn't hurt to bring along information about what a Genet is. The person you talk to may not have a clue what a Genet is (I didn't when I first read your post, but did some research).



It doesn't appear these creatures are all that aggressive so are not likely to pose a threat to anything bigger than a hamster, or at least no more danger than a typical household cat would. Territory marking may be smelly...depending on how strong their musk is, but it may be more of an issue for you and your household, if it marks its territory inside the house.
