I have NEVER seen this before!!!

I have acquired this beautiful specimen from a pet shop, and I am trying to figure out what he/she is. Bought him/her from a Leporinus fasciatus tank, but I can't seem to find anything on this fish... I really don't think he is a Leporinus fasciatus. He is currently about 3" in length, and a voracious eater. His striping on the top of his body seems to change from very dark to very light. He has three distinct spots on his body. One at the gill, one in the middle of his body and one at the tail. These markings are identical on each side. That's about all I know. Any help would be great. Here is his picture:
