Greetings.
I just bought a 10-gallon tank and filled it what I figure is very clean water from our under-the-sink, GE SmartWater Reverse-Osmosis filter. I filled it over a period of two days, and put in a couple of Black Moor goldfish this afternoon. The customer service person at PetSmart said this type of filter would not require seven days to get set up. What I'm not sure about is what kind of water treatment I would need to do with this highly filtered water.
I know for a fact that this filter dramatically reduces chlorine. Is R/O water free of ammonia. (I'm thinking the filter would get rid of that as well as metals and other toxins.) Does anyone know whether using water from a Reverse Osmosis filter enables someone to forego treating that water with chemicals? In other words, what will this filter do and not do as far as making the water habitable?
Thanks!
JoelG
