I don't know what to do with this fish. We've had him about 5 or 6 months. Originally Hubby bought 4 cichlids. Had I been there I would have stopped him from buying any aggressive fish. One by one the others died out. 1 from fungus (discovered and treated too late) and the other 2 from being "bullied". Their tails and fins were basically gone when they died.
I tried to give the fish away. I listed him on craigs list and contacted local aquarium stores. Nothing panned out. I resigned myself to having a one fish aquarium.
A few weeks ago our snails died. The tank started to get really green. I went to the aquarium store and explained that I needed an algae eater but had an aggressive fish. I was told that he would be okay because the fish was a different species. Just to be certain I got a fish that was a little larger then we really needed.
We went away for one night, came back and the algae eater is all chewed up. He's alive and active. The tank is beautiful, but his fins and tail are all torn up.
I don't know what to do. I can't keep a fish that kills everything else in the tank, but no one wants him. Please give me advice. Right now all I want to do is get rid of this and get some mollies or something small and simple. (And next time Hubby doesn't get the fish with out me).
