Both the parents are very protective of the young. Do you have both sexes? Or just a female? Females can produce eggs without a male partner, but they will of course be unfertilized. Also, if it is not pregnancy it could be constipation. If you wanted to see if that is the cause, just toss a couple peas in your tank (they might float or they might sink).
