Live aquaria is a site put together by 2 veterinarians, so it is actually a pretty good site. I haven't come across anything misleading yet. Although, most information on the net is the same, so I guess it doesn't matter where you get your information as long as you check a few places to make sure everything is similar.

As for your statement about you keeping the opaline/gold gouramis and bala sharks with community fish... that depends on the individuals in the tank. Some people put bettas in their community tank, and they do fine, but most of the time the betta quickly becomes the only fish in the tank. Some people also put tiger barbs in their community tank, but I have had the tiger barbs. They quickly got their own tank even though their temperament is semi-aggressive... I would list them as aggressive. The temperaments are given to prevent losing fish. I never mix temperaments because I don't want anything to happen to my fish.

That being said, if you want them in your tank and think nothing will happen, they should be fine in your tank otherwise (as far as tank size goes). You asked for others opinions. My feelings won't be hurt if you want to put them in your tank. I just give people all the information I can so they are educated about their choices. Some people don't do the research like you did.

It really does sound like a beautiful tank.
