I have a 55 gal bowfront fish tank that has been established for about 10 years now. I run an underground filter, with 2 power heads and also a Fluval 304. I am about to make a major overhaul on the tank by removing my Platy's and Mollies and move into either Freshwater Puffers or African Cichlids.

Sunday I decided to do a major heavy cleaning on the gravel and also a larger portion of water change (30%) before stating the change over.

When I went to power it back on, my one powerhead no longer worked. Also I did a filtration change on the Fluval and after 10 years it is falling apart and needs replaced. I jury rigged it enough till payday so it is working fine, but I am curious. Do you think I really need to have 2 powerheads running on the tank. I would really like to eliminate the one all together.

Lastly, any advice on Puffers (FW) or Cichlids?

Thanks!!

Mez
