just over this weekend I have inherited a family parrot. He or she has been in my family for 50 years. Not sure how old he is as he was captured in a tree in my grandparents back yard 50 years ago. He has been with my grandparents all these years. My problem is that since they died no one wanted the bird so I said I would take him. When I went to pick him up I was appalled at the shape he was in. (I have not seen the bird in years).the first thing I have done is to make an appt to take him to a vet. When I took him, he actually had roaches on him and in a pipe in his cage. He has lost all his feathers on his back and either his wings have been broken or are dislocated. His cage is to small and his dies has consisted of dry food from WalMart. Can someone give me some advice on his care until I can get him to the vet? I have changed his diet in that I am giving him fresh fruit and vegetables and pecans.I do think that he is feeling better but any advice would be appreciated.
