Help! I have two Zebra finches that I got from my mom when her two finches had a clutch. I took the two little brothers and they have been housed together since they were born. We are going on about 3 1/2 years now with no fighting or territory issues.
I've recently moved them in to a larger cage but kept all the housing and perches in the same areas to not stress them too much. They seemed to be doing fine until recently. (I have the new cage set up for about a month)
I've just noticed my one finch is losing feathers on the back of the neck. Not noticing any scratching or plucking.
I decided to to a little spying on them and noticed that the healthier finch has become rather aggressive with the other one who is losing the feathers.
My question is: why would they start fighting now after all these years?
Why do they fight at times but then nestle up to each other at other times.
I was going to take out the housing, do you think this would help?
Will this issue resolve or do I have to re-home one of them?
Please help.
PS I am also going to start adding egg to their diet to see if that helps any
