Posted by: DTC at Wed Apr 28 21:05:23 2010 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by DTC ] I have two cockatiels (11 yo male and 4 yo female) who laid eggs for the first time this spring. They laid 5 eggs and one hatched, and they have been very good parents to the chick who is now 19 days old. Then, yesterday, they stopped spending time with it in the nest box, although they are still feeding it. It has a very full crop. I called our vet who said this isn't normal, to put a heat source by the nest box, and to make sure I had handfeeding supplies ready. I was wondering if anyone else had experience with parents raising chicks, and when the parents started leaving the chicks alone in the nest box like this?
