It really depends a lot on the individual bird. Many of the lovebirds I have worked with that had a hut, hide or nest were aggressive around their "special hideouts". This did not mean they were always aggressive or that every bird will be aggressive but the ones I have worked with generally were. Many were fine if away from the cage but not if any where in visual range of the hideout.

If you feel your bird is tame enough and able to be worked with enough that you want to try a hut then I would suggest 100% cotton or polar fleece. On either please watch that your bird does not get chunks of the cloth loose or strings chewed loose that could entagle the legs, wings, or head or that would be able to be swallowed. I have heard of some birs ingesting pieces of the cloth from their huts and causing complications and others have become entangled in strings form huts or toys. As long as you do check the hut carefully there should be nothing to worry about.
