I would never suggest buying a second bird just as a companion to a first bird. If you are really wanting a second bird yourself then maybe it would work. In getting a new bird no matter what species (and I would really only suggest the same type as you have) there is no guarantee the two will get along. Yes in some circumstances it will work but just as often or more often it will not go the way you want. First they could completely hate each other, try to attack each other, scream constantly, compete for attention etc. In that instance you would need two cages in separate rooms and more time to spend then you already do with one. Next there is a possibility that they will like each other, will bond to one another and make it harder for you to handle or work with either one.

If you are afraid of your bird being bored try new toys, having the cage near a television which you leave on while you are gone (the colorful movement and noise helps to keep them distracted at least for short periods of time). Setting aside a certain amount of time to play with him and have him out while you are home. Offer special treats or toys before you leave to give him something to do and to help teach him it isn't so bad when you leave. There are many ways to help overcome the possible boredom as long as you work at it. Having a second bird will add to not deduct from the current problems.
