As said above patience and time will be the main key to taming. Start slowly letting your bird get used to you being near the cage. When he/she flies away or flutters around just sit calmly near the cage talking in a gentle voice. After he seems used to you being near you can try offering a treat (such as a spray of millet) to coax him over near you. Don't make quick moves just be patient. When ready to let him out of the cage try taking him into a small room with a door and no mirrors or windows or cover the mirrors and windows. Then release him from his cage and sit patiently. Letting him come out of the cage and explore for a bit on his own. Then try offering the millet, just holding it patiently in your hand. This may take several tries and you may have to catch your bird during the first few times to return to the cage (which is why a small enclosed room helps!)
