Yes that is definitely one thing I would stress. Do not breed your birds unless you already have places to take them (sell them, give them away etc).

I have seen too many people want to breed birds as a hobby and become overrun with them. Either they thought they were a great money-making opportunity or else just thought it was "neat" to have all the baby birds around. If you do it right especially with smaller birds you will not be bringing in a lot of money. Even budgies if being bred need to see a vet. Just because they are a "cheaper" bird doesn't mean their care is cheaper.

My sister-in-law decided she wanted to breed finches to sell and thought she had places for them all. Within the year she had all of her cages full, no one wanted them she advertised on every site imaginable and still couldn't place them. She even tried giving them away over the "trading post" and except for one hoarder (she is now getting professional help but that's another story) that had 75 birds in her house already no one was interested (she didn't give them to her LOL!)She finally turned them over to the rescue and we were able to finally get them to quit breeding after taking out nests, covering them up early to limit daytime and on several of her pairs we eventually had to separate them because even after all that they would continue laying eggs. We even got to the point we had to replace eggs with "dummy" eggs so the females would quit laying at least for a while!
