Well, its hard to say what is causing this behaviour, but the first thing I'd look at would be his saddle fit. If he is in pain, he would try to avoid the saddle and being ridden. I'd have the vet look at him and check his back and maybe get some help with saddle fitting. Also, maybe look at the Marv Walker technique to get him to bond to you.
