Hmmm...sounds like there was definitely something in the feed that she was reacting to! But I doubt it was the protein. The older horses often do need that protein, so don't be too hard on Purina And I will say its one of the best foods out there for putting weight on malnourished horses!

However, any horse can react to anything, they are as bad as kids. You may never know what exactly it was she reacted to. Hopefully it won't ever become a problem again, but at least if it does, you have a base to compare to and see if there's an overlap of feed ingredients that could be causing the problem!
