Hi El

Sounds like you are getting ready to expand your knowledge and fun with horses. That's great!!

Just a word of caution.. english saddles can be more complicated to fit to both the horse and rider. All saddles need to fit both for both of you to be comfortable. When I bought my first english saddle, I did a tracing of my horse's withers. She was a morab and later on we found that that same saddle fit our QH too, however, this year we bought another morgan, and that saddle doesn't come near fitting him. Each horse can be so different that simply telling the breed really won't get a good fit for your horse. You need to determine the width of the tree that will best fit the horse.. and of course have a sense of what seat size you are most comfortable in. There are some tack shops that will work with you, but be careful not to leave leather marks on the saddle if you bring one home to try. You want to be able to return it if it doesn't fit properly.

I rode for many years in my combination saddle and had a great time. I hope you have good luck finding the right saddle for you and your horse.

Happy trails.. Dean
