We recently purchased 2 18h Percheron mares and their feet were in good shape. The one doesn't like her feet messed with and try as I might can't seem to get her used to the idea of me picking up her feet and holding them there or not walking off and dragging me along like a piece of toilet paper stuck to a shoe. We've all seen that cartoon but not so funny when you're a part of the picture...... The previous owners agree that she doesn't like her feet trimmed and say she has been trimmed with and without stocks but no hint of how. I haven't been able to find a farrier within 80 miles of me that does drafts and he has no stocks. I also have no stocks and no idea where to get any. I've even went so far as to try to find blueprints(so to speak ) of Horse shoeing stocks on the net but no luck.
Any ideas any one???
Has anyone ever heard of hoof trimmers that are used on feet while they are on the ground? I read an article about them but have no idea where to get them either or no idea if they really will work or do a good job.
