Posted by: Tackett at Wed Oct 27 14:54:19 2004 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by Tackett ] My barrel horse came up lame after a run back in August. Would not walk on right hind leg at all at the time. Then would walk on toe only, eventually to flat foot with no limp at all in the walk only. No swelling or heat in tendon area, etc. Now slight gimp when trotting or at canter right lead only. Taken to vet 3 days after incident, x-ray hock, chip and spurs near hock, not near joint movement. Hock injected, vet stated chip and spurs should not affect him since not near joint. Still lame 10 days later, taken back, x-rayed stiffle and injected. Doing better but not 100%. Holds leg up sometimes when standing, only limps at walk and right lead canter. Farrier stated today that he's 99% sure of a torn "check" ligament. Scheduled appointment with different vet on Friday. Would he only be lame in a trot and canter if this is the case? Please expain severity of a torn "check" ligament. Thank you. [ Reply To This Message ] [ Subscribe to this Thread ] [ Hide Replies ]
