I purchased a horse 2 days ago. This horse was pasture kept with about 20 others. I noticed he had somewhat loose stoole, but nothing too bad. He has been given very minimal grains and lots of hay to acclimate the difference in feed. We have now noticed that he is not drinking very much if any and has loose, mostly runny stool, and only about every 2 - 3 hours does he have a bowel movement. We checked his stool for sand, very minimal. He has been fed wet hay to try and increase the amounts of water. He doesn't appear colicy, showing bright eyes and alertness, and he also has a normal temp of 98.7. Could this just be stress related, diet change related or parasitic reactions, or all the above? Anything serious? Maybe not related, but the first 2 days I had him he stood nicely at the cross t for almost an hour, but today, after standing for a few minutes, maybe 10, he got very "spooked" and broke one clip off, twice, and was very nervous and seemed upset. This wasn't how he behaved the first 2 days and he's not a excitable horse, or so far he doesn't seem to be, could this be related?
Thanks
