Well, right now we have a few feet of snow out there and it doesn't look like Spring, but we only have another month before our foaling season starts here! We're expecting 4 foals here, and the mares are all looking very fat!!! Poor girls, I feel sorry for them when they get this far along and look like hippos on stilts out there.

So who is up for a color and filly/colt guessing contest??? Something to spend the time on until they get brought up into the foaling stalls at least

Our first mare due is Red, who is just that, red with some roaning. She's bred to The Quest who is solid (homozygous) black. So it's no mystery that the foal is likely to be black, unless Red is hiding a bay gene in there somewhere! She's given us a chestnut colt with minimum characteristics and roaning, and a bright leopard filly - both when bred to our deceased leopard stallion.

Our second one due is Chris, and we're not 100% sure when she's due. She was bred more than once, and on preg checking her the last time, Travis thought she might have been farther along than she should have been, indicating that he had missed the embryo during ultrasound the cycle before...so she's either due late March or Mid April. Fortunately she is one that gives me plenty of warning before foaling! She's a bay with roaning. She has throw 4 fillies in the past - a deep chestnut roan, a black with spots on her hips, and when bred to our leopard the last two times, she threw a black with a blanket and roaning, and a bright red leopard. So...she's bred to The Quest also, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed she'll stick with the colored filly habit!

Third due is Magic, a black and white fewspot - who I suspect might be homozygous for black as well as color. She's thrown 3 fillies for us, all by our chestnut leopard stallion. A black and white fewspot, a bay with a huge blanket that might have been a snowcap, and a few spot bay. She's bred to a chestnut stallion with snowflakes over his hips.

And last but not least is our Impressive Andrew daugher, Misfit, who is solid black/dark bay and has only had one foal so far, a deep bay filly with developing characteristics. She's bred back to the same stallion, chestnut with snowflakes on his hips for this year.

So that's the line up! What do you think we'll get???
