A horse that bites is unpleasant no matter the size or age. There's a lot of remedies out there for the problem. Some good, some bad. The answer is really in what works.



The little one is likely trying to get your attention, trying to play. A little one-on-one would be in order. You might want to look into clicker training such as, "Clicker Training For Your Horse" by Alexandra Kurland. Training can be fun and maybe it will take his mind off of trying to initiate play with biting.



Another option is put on a halter and pull the halter lead through the bottom ring weave it into the one of the side rings and then bring the lead over the nose or under the chin snapping it on the opposite side. A quick gentle tug every time he tries to bite, should quickly put a stop to it without traumatizing.



I far prefer the positive training of the clicker but I've had to use the other.
