There is a bill is the California State Assembly (AB 2862) that will make criminal certain acts in the management of such a business. The bill contains guidelines and housing requirements in the "selling animals for profit" and is to be added to the California Penal Code. This puts animal sales under the same scutiny as drug dealers, wife beaters and other common criminals. Some of these guidelines in the proposal are actually negative for the animals they are trying to protect. Further, it outlaws the sales of ANY California species. The exemption for animals produced under permit and albino specimens is in perfect conflict with this new bill.

A link to the actual bill is found here:

CALL TO ACTION:

Towards the bottom of the above page is a form. Put your zip code in and your will get the address of your State Representatives. WRITE TO THEM YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT THIS MEASURE. The only way we can beat this is to let them know we don't like it.

Tell your friends and colleagues to visit:

Ask them to enter their email address so they can also be notified of new developments.

ANY BODY THAT SELLS ANIMALS FOR PROFIT IS AFFECTED BY THIS BILL. From your favourite breeder, to the kid that breeds and sells the babies of his , to professional breeders, retailers, wholesalers...... ad infinitum.

Tell your hard goods suppliers. ANYBODY THAT SELLS PRODUCTS TO THOSE THAT SELLS ANIMALS FOR PROFIT IS AFFECTED BY THIS BILL. If we are not selling animals or animal sales are curtailed because of increased costs all animal related products are affected.

Read this bill and send your State Representative a letter. Have your spouse and voting age children do the same. Heck ask your neighbors and their spouses to send a letter.

Thanks for taking the itme to read this. Forward it to as many California animal associates as you have emails for. Let's get the ball roilling now, before it is too late.
