Make it on one end of the tank so she can move to the other end which will be cooler. OTOH if she stays in he 85F zone, that is an important discovery. It seems to me it's worth a try. If your equipment is primitive, make sure you don't accidentally create a system that will shoot the whole tank up to 120 when you are not looking. In my defense, just because I have a really strong reptile knowledge base does not in itself make this an unworthy move.
