I was walking home from the store the other day and saw a large beetle about 1 1/2 - 2 inches long. it looked like a wasp and yellow and black striped like a wasp, but the yellow was more of a dull color (almost like a color between yellow and beige/tan) and there were no thin wings like a wasp has. the body was also wider and the legs were thicker and were the beige/tan color like the stripes. it looked like it had pinchers on its face, but as i got closer to it, it started charging at me quickly, so i backed off. it didn't fly away, so i'm not even sure if it had wings, it didn't appear to have a stinger on the end, but the end was pointy like a wasp, as well. very strange bug. i used to research and collect bugs when i was a kid, especially beetles, but i have never seen anything like this one! i didn't have my cell so i couldn't take a pic of it. i am thinking maybe it is something that lives only in a warmer climate, as i live in southern california near the beach. this bug was crawling near vegetation, though. has anyone seen anything like this before or have an idea what it might be? i'm just very curious! thanks! happy holidays
