Hello all, first post here. Got an identification question.



Whilst in tunisia last year, I found two species of centipede living amongst some ruins. The first I quickly identified as a Scolopendra Cingulata or some sub-species. The second was extremely odd. Unlike scolopendra centipedes in shape, it was very long and thin with a great many legs. When I found it, under a slab of stone, it was coiled up, not in a spiral like a millipede but in a tangle of its incredibly long body. When it stretched out it was around 7" long i'd say, about twice the size of the s.cingulata i'd seen, coloration dark with bluish tints especially around the legs. It also moved rather slowly for a centipede, but much more quickly than a millipede. It had 2 legs per segment and biting jaws (although these were rather less formidable than any scolopendra-like centipedes) so it definitely was NOT a millipede. It reminded me of those longer, thinner yellow centipedes you find in soil here in england, as opposed to the stockier, more scolopendra in shape, red garden centipedes. My guess is its a member of one of the lesser know, non-scolopendrid taxonomy groups but I'm not sure. Tried to find photos from googling my description but alas, alack.



If one of you folk can tell me what species this was, and even better provide a photo, that would be fabulous, its baffled me for a while.
