Very Wierd Looking Moth/Catepillar Help!

So, my dad found some weird caterpillar cocoon looking insect. The image can be found here: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs117.snc4/36216_137386976272426_100000033731181_374428_3483475_n.jpg . He found it on top of a leaf in his garden, he said it was crawling very cumbersomely. What?! is this thing... any help would be great appreciated. And end this ridiculous search of mine, I cant find this anywhere.
