I have mixed emotions on this topic, because I too have a very large 15 yr old iguana that will not take any crap from any of our cats. Luckily, none of the cats are stupid enough to mess with him. But I do know that if one of our cats scratched my ig, that cat probably would have a few broken bones, if not a missing limb. I don't like declawing cats, because I feel that they were born with them and it would be wrong to take them away. But on the other hand, out of the 5 cats I have, my family was almost forced to cat one of them declawed. It was viciously attacking people and the other animals. It tore up my legs so bad, I still have scars 7 years later. And all I did was walk by it. If it's a safety issue, I think declawing is ok. But I am aware of all the things that can go wrong with the procedure, so I wouldn't declaw any of my cats, unless it was an extreme circumstance.
