I'm really not sure cats should be outdoors, at least in the city or suburbs.

Where I live, I think they are trying to make all cats indoor cats, which I think is a very good idea. I've had some issues with outdoor cats before. I used to raise ducks, and in the summertime, we would put them in a pen in the backyard. Well, one day we had a mother duck in the pen with her 5 small ducklings. I was in my kitchen, which I can see the pen from the window, and I hear the mother duck going crazy. A neighbor's outdoor cat had gotten into my yard and was going after my ducks, and had actually killed 2 of the babies. I ran outside and took the cat back to the neighnor who then told me that it's not her fault that her cat got at my ducks, "it's what cats do".

We also let our iguana and dog outside, where we've also had problems with outdoor cats roaming into our yard. I don't quite understand how people can just let their cats roam all over the place like that. When I let my cats outside, they know to stay in my yard, or they will have to go back inside or be put on a leash. I shouldn't really have to worry about someone else's cat in my yard.
