My cat HATED us after we got her declawed and it took many years (5-7) for her to turn around. Now that she is about 15 she is very loving. We got her declawed sometime in the first year. I was too young to remember how old she was. She didn't like affection and wasn't an affectionate cat until at least 6 years later (but she was a sweet kitten). I felt guilty the whole time after we did it and I told her I was sorry all the time. When she was several years old we got two stray kittens from outside and never declawed them. Alice (the declawed) and them didn't get along at first, but slowly have learned to like each other. Never had a problem with the two clawed cats destroying anything.
