I'm a day late and a dollar short on this but as I read the question, I was thinking Norweigen Forest Cat, so that sort of counts, doesn't it? I believe that I've read somewhere that this is where the Maine Coon cat is believed to have come from, a cross between the Norweigen Forest Cat and another cat on America's shores.
