When I adopted the boys from the SPCA a hundred years ago, they had flea eggs and a couple fleas. The vet gave me a special shampoo, flea comb, and spray to use after the bath (only one bath was needed if I kept up with the spray, etc.)

So, a day or two after getting them, I had to bathe them. It wen pretty well considering I was new to them. I washed them separately. They sat there an squirmed and groaned and grumbled, but neither bit or clawed me... If I had to do it again all these years later, I am sure it would work out OK, they are 15 this year and have never bitten or clawed me or anyone. Very gentle but grumbly cats in situations like that.
