PHTessie is absoultely right. Paper bags, cardboard boxes, and wadded paper balls are great fun for my boys. Catnip stuffed toys are probably played with the longest by them of all the "bought" toys. One toy that has endured thru the years (they've had for at least 14 years now) that gets played with fairly often is a Turbo Scratcher. You can get at WalMart. They also sell cardboard insert refills if your cat has claws and tears it up. Sprinkling catnip on the cardboard really adds to the fun. Here is a picture of it with Pookey. It has a ball in the outer track and a cardboard insert for sprinkling catnip they scratch on in the center.
