I agree with the other 2 posters. It sounds to me as if the cats are just working things out and the hissing and growling is a part of it.

Presently, the top cat here is being challenged by the youngest cat. They chase each other, wrestle, hiss, growl and carry on, but there is no real fighting. The next thing you know they are grooming each other.

I'm all for letting cats work things out on their own as long as nobody is getting hurt.
