My precious Tiki has taken her trip over the Rainbow Bridge. She was 19 yrs old and I've had her for the past 14 yrs.
Last year, she suffered with a URI and b/c of her age, many vets recommended I have her put down. Somehow I knew that it wasn't her time. I finally found a vet who treated her and she came back strong.
About 6 months ago, she was diagnosed with Kidney Failure. I was giving her SubQ fluids. She responded well for awhile but in the end, her age and the illness caught up to her.
It was difficult making the decision to have her put to sleep simply b/c I had seen her in a bad way before and seen her fight back. This week, it was obvious that it was the end of the line and that keeping her alive was not doing her any good. I made that last awful drive to the vet.
I was called into the back room and I asked for one more minute to hold Tiki and say my final goodbyes. She looked at me, gave a deep breath, and was gone. It was her gift to me....taking the decision out of my hands.
Thank you Tiki for all the wonderful years.
