Hi Tracy, I also had a similar problem. Our cats would pee in the dining room of our home. I finally figured out that the cat that lived there before us used to spray and they could smell it and decided to go in the same place. I had 5 indoor cats at the time and I could not make them stop going no matter how hard I tried. Even after cleaning. I guess the smell was in the floor boards. Once we moved out of that house the cats never went outside the litter box again. I would try using MA advice and put something over the stop like tin foil to deter them from going there. Also, the feliway works wonders. Oh and I have been told to use rescue remedy before. I haven't used it yet. I am going to talk to my vet about it first.
Good luck,
