We just rescued a gorgeous longhaired female kitten (6 months old) from a shelter a week ago. She has adjusted nicely to her new environs (including 2 other cats - both neutered males). Everyone is adapting to each other, except my oldest cat, Laz. He is growling and hissing, but each day I see progress in his tolerance of her. It's only been a week so I am actually pleasantly surprised at how he is dealing with her. Anyway, Meesha (the kitten) is very affectionate, purrs a lot when pet and loves human contact. Lately she has been licking me a lot on the hands and fingers and then biting them. Last night she slept in the bed next to me and proceeded to periodically lick my arm, then she would bite and claw at my arm. She does this to my hands too. I never had this problem with my other cats. It's surprising because she is not aggressive..she is very loving. What does this behavior mean and how can I stop it? I don't want her to be the kind of cat that is always clawing and biting at people.
