Unfortunately you can change the way a cat relates with you by bringing in another cat.

I do recommend some "alone" time where you can close him in a room with you and just sit with him. You should be doing something else and not making eye contact or talking to him. Occasionally toss him a treat, but don't look at him. Do this for about 15 minutes a day and see if he doesn't warm up during these times.

I can take a long time for cats to learn to tolerate each other. Eventually they will work out a hierarchy and sort of "time share" you on their terms.
